Objects of Curiosity: Behind the Scenes at North Sydney Council’s Archives
Are you curious about what local historians actually do? Come and explore the collections preserved at North Sydney Council's archive store, not usually open to the public.
North Sydney Council’s Historical Services team collects and cares for an enormous variety of objects – from artworks to archaeology, clothing to cooking equipment. In some cases, we know a great deal about who made an object, who used it, when and where. Often, though, we have to rely on the object itself to provide us with these clues. Only a small proportion of this fascinating collection is on display at any one time; the majority is stored in our dedicated archive facility at Council’s Depot.
Join Historical Services staff for a free tour behind the scenes of some of these stored artefacts, which have so much to tell us about North Sydney.
Please wear sturdy enclosed shoes. Large bags will not be permitted inside the collection store. Please note the building has two flights of stairs.
