A Talk By Author Alek Schulha. Alek has collected more than 100 personal stories told by former residents of the Greta Migrant Camp. Alek will share some of the most intriguing stories, including the stories of transfers between Greta Migrant Camp and Benalla.
This event is hosted by the Benalla Migrant Camp Exhibition during the Benalla Heritage Festival Open Days. Alek Schulha’s talk will be held in the unique State Heritage Listed former chapel of the Benalla Migrant Camp (Hut 65). (follow the signage from the main entrance).
The talk will be fascinating for everyone interested in migration history and the story of the Benalla Migrant Camp and its connection to Greta NSW Camp. It will outline the experiences of migrants as they tried to rebuild their lives after the Second World War.
Former students who are locals and/or returning to Benalla from all over Victoria, including many Benalla migrant camp residents, are invited to share their stories about their school days (good and bad stories) by sending an email to sabine.smyth@gmail.com
