Land of the Beardies History House Museum & Research Centre

History and heritage. With over 26 rooms, galleries and sheds of fascinating artefacts, curios, treasures, machines, and stories; come be captivated and inspired at the Land of the Beardies Museum.

Linger, browse, touch… there is something to engage all ages and interests.

Our numerous rooms and galleries contain everything from agriculture, shearing, mining, telecommunications, printing, and bee-keeping, to vintage tools & machinery, horse-drawn vehicles, and vintage domestic appliances. We even have a barbed-wire collection, convict-made bricks, a convict-era whipping stool, and an original slab-hut!

Our exhibits include the Medical Wing – showcasing the operating theatre and an Australian-designed and made ‘Iron Lung’ – as well as dental, pharmacy & optical displays, our ‘Collectors Corner’, old-time classroom, Children’s Room, and the original hospital kitchen. The museum grounds display examples of vintage agricultural & industrial equipment. Keep the younger ones interested and occupied with our children’s activities, such as ‘Hunt the Beardy’ and ‘What am I?’.

If you have a family connection to Glen Innes take the opportunity for some research. Contact us prior to your trip so our volunteers can search the archives beforehand (please note fees apply).
