Isis District Historical Society Open Day
Visit our historical complex and see our varied collection of items. Enjoy conversation with volunteers, whilst perusing old newspapers and laugh at how news was written 'in the old days’. Reminisce about the photos on display.
Entry to our heritage buildings is through a stringy bark archway flanked by ironbark rails. On site is an old school building that holds a treasure of old school items, an early 1900s restored worker’s cottage, a general store that has an old National Cash Register displayed on a red cedar counter. Visit Waluma Post Office, an original slab hut dating back to the late 1800s. See the collection of horse drawn vehicles, the restored Fordson tractor, memorabilia from Philpott’s cordial factory, the rotunda and the 1887 school bell, steam locomotives and a derrick historically used in the local sugar industry. See how having a voice, enabled the women to influence their futures, which led to the emergence of local men and women to become well-known local or state government representatives. They had the opportunity through newspapers to write ‘letters to the Editor’, as well as telling a story through photos. Engage in conversation over a cuppa and a scone or enjoy a delicious sausage sizzle and a cold drink. Table and chairs will be set out in grounds.
