Illawarra Houses & Homes

The exhibition shows the variety of housing in the Illawarra area over time and includes images of tents, caravans, shacks from the Depression era, cottages with a variety of architectural styles to high rise apartments and modern mansions.

What makes a house a home? There have been many different types and styles of houses in the Illawarra from shacks to high rise flats. They have each been a home to people with stories of their own. We hope this exhibition will prompt people to remember places they have lived and share stories about what made their house a home. You can view the exhibition of photographs in person or online. If you have any images you’d like to add to the library’s collection, do let us know.
