In 2007, Ripples Chowder Bay was transformed from the submarine miners’ depot to a waterfront restaurant with a proud history. As a heritage building, the original timber framing and columns remain. The main room features a spiral staircase that was originally used to connect the miner’s workshop to the mine storage chambers during the 1890’s. Hence the room’s present name – the ‘AquaMine Room’.
With picturesque surroundings and brimming marine life, the history between the headlands tells an interesting tale of changing tides. From Borogegal fishing grounds to American whaling stations, and blasting brass bands to secretive underwater explosives. We invite you to join a journey into its past and share a part in the stories that make it so special. Guests will be led on this tour by Journey Walks before enjoying a delicious 3 course lunch.
