Historic Hartley and the Lost Inn
Hartley Historic Village is a living document of life in colonial times and the development of one of the earliest towns west of the Blue Mountains.
Centred around its grand Court House, Hartley today is one of the best preserved Colonial townscapes in Australia.
Come and walk in the footsteps of history and hear the story of how Hartley came into existence. Be enchanted by gorgeous sandstone buildings, why they were built, who built them and how Hartley survived so well intact. Learn about colonial architecture and construction methods.
See first hand the remains of Pierce Collits second and grandest inn, the first building constructed in Hartley Village and the mystery surrounding its fate. Buried for more than a century and only recently excavated, it has all but disappeared from the history books.
Your guide Huckleberry Campbell is a Hartley local and a descendant of Pierce Collits. Huckleberry has been a volunteer guide with the National Trust for 20 years and is both informative and entertaining.
The walk covers 1.5kms, mostly on paved surfaces uphill for a duration of 21/2 hours.
Afternoon Tea will be served at the end of the walk historic St John The Evangelist Anglican Church.
