HERSTORY: Celebrating 25 years of EMILY’s List Australia

This exhibition tells the story of a ‘for women by women’ network that provides political, financial, and personal support to progressive Labor women candidates and politicians in Australia. It celebrates how positive change can be created when we take action.

HERSTORY features Hon Linda Burney MP, Sharon Claydon MP, Helen Creed, Hon Cheryl Davenport AM, Hon Julia Gillard AC, Hutch Hussein, Tanja Kovac, Leonie Morgan AM and the Hon Tanya Plibersek MP.

The exhibition focusses on the beginnings of EMILY’s List Australia from 25 years ago, and explores topics ranging through Affirmative Action, Impact, First Nations, Getting Started, Leadership – and one of ELA’s most successful Campaigns – Abortion Law Reform.

Following a confronting year of truths, projected through the strong voices of Grace Tame, Brittany Higgins and Chantal Contos, and in light of the up and coming State and Federal elections, the role of women at the decision-making table has never been more important.

The HERSTORY exhibition is a blend of video interviews, text, photos and artefacts collected over 25 years.

HER STORY is presented by Her Place Women’s Museum Australia in partnership with EMILY’S List Australia. The exhibition was made possible through the generous contributions of ELA members and those who support gender equality.
