Heritage History Tour of Gore Hill Cemetery
Explore the many notable and special individuals buried within Gore Hill Memorial Cemetery on World Heritage Day, Sunday 18 April. Their stories are brought to life by the Friends of Gore Hill Cemetery on a history tour.
This tour will feature several notable individuals buried at the heritage listed Gore Hill Memorial Cemetery, which may include William Wilkinson Wardell, William Tunks, Colonel Walter Liberty Vernon, Sir John Sulman, the Josephite Sisters and Mary Mackillop (initially buried at the site) .
The Cemetery is a rare historical burial place; one of the oldest and largest remaining cemeteries in metropolitan Sydney. It is a fine and intact example of late Victorian/Edwardian landscaped public burial ground with high quality funerary architecture.
The Friends of Gore Hill Cemetery is a voluntary organisation dedicated to its heritage protection, for existing and future generations. Northern Cemeteries is a not-for-profit organisation that looks after five unique cemetery sites.
