Heritage Futures – The Historic Houses Property Network
Much of Australia’s heritage is cared for by private owners taking a shared custodial approach. Join Dr Bernadette Flynn of the Historic Houses Association to learn how the HHA network supports this quest, activating public interest and engagement with heritage.
Much of the Australian built heritage is cared for by private owners. Many owners view themselves as custodians and play a large part in maintaining traditional trade skills in the ongoing conservation of historic properties. In addition, they are often the unacknowledged keepers of many of the historical stories, oral histories and local memories of the site.
Join Dr Bernadette Flynn, General Manager of the Historic Houses Association to hear about the cultural heritage of the HHA Property Network and the growing network of owners who share a significant responsibility for passing on the legacy of historic houses and landscapes of significance. The presentation will reflect on strategies for activating engagement with heritage within the context of shared communities of interest and an embodied sense of place and identity. Case studies will illustrate how owners are meeting the challenges and opportunities of this heritage legacy.
