Guided tours of The Griffins + Castlecrag: Outdoor Historic Photo Exhibition

Join us for a guided tour through some of the walkways and reserves of this unique suburb designed by Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin. Along the route there will be displays of historic photos, some by Max Dupain taken in 1965 and others from the 1920s and '30s.

These 1.5 hour guided walking tours will meander through Castlecrag, Sydney’s original bushland estate, where the guiding Griffin principle was for the buildings to be subordinate to the landscape. Enjoy walking part of the extensive network of Griffin walking tracks and reserves as well as past nine of the architecturally distinct Griffin houses.
Be transported back in time as you view rare historical photos of the exteriors and interiors of some of the Griffin houses and compare the Castlecrag landscape as it was almost a century ago. These historic photos will be displayed at various stopping points on some nature strips and in a few of the secluded Griffin reserves in the Griffin Conservation Area.
This unique outdoor photographic display is supported by a Willoughby City Council Grant.
Your tour guide will provide fascinating details about the photos and about the Griffins’ architecture and urban planning of this internationally renowned suburb celebrating its centenary year.
