From Bennelong Point to Barangaroo: a walking tour

Join Dr Ian Hoskins, award winning author of 'Sydney Harbour: a history', on an intimate walk from Bennelong Point, the site of the iconic Opera House, to the city's newest and most controversial development at Barangaroo. Discover the back streets of the Rocks and Millers Point along the way.

Historian Ian Hoskins is an expert on the fascinating and complex history of Sydney Harbour and its waterfront. He will show you hidden treasures and surprises around Sydney’s iconic waterfront from the Opera House to Barangaroo. With the aid of Ian’s knowledge adn historic photos and artworks learn about the waterway of the first Harbour people Bennelong and Barangaroo; the extraordinary development of the colonial harbour; the changes to its waterfront precincts in the 20th century when the plague precipated resumptions and Sydney’s transition from a working port to a city of finance and commerce nearly saw the transformation of The Rocks into a forest of high rise offices and hotels.

The walk will put into historical context the controversial developments at Barangaroo.

Each walk is limited to a maximum of eight people to ensure the best experience. It is being offered during the National Trust Heritage Festival at a discounted rate.

This is a reasonably demanding walk which runs for approximately 3 hours. There are numerous steps but also opportunities to sit and rest. We end at lower Kent Street in Millers Point.
