Focus on Design at Rippon Lea

Not sure what a Tobin tube ventilation system is? What about a pole screen? Have you ever wondered about the story behind Rippon Lea’s ornate wallpaper, or seen an authentic Royal Doulton toilet bowl? Then this is definitely the tour for you.

We often take fixtures and fittings for granted; they blend into the background and go unnoticed. This tour makes them the star of the show. From ornate fittings, curtains, wallpapers, cornice treatments and soft furnishings to the more practical and everyday – clotheslines and 1950s electric heaters – all will be revealed. Take a trip down memory lane as we highlight some of Rippon Lea mansion’s fascinating internal fittings and fixtures, spanning four different periods of private ownership, and nineteenth and twentieth century design history. All are welcome. Tour will be led by one of Rippon Lea’s experienced guides.
