Explorers Way launch at Tahbilk
Join us at historic Tahbilk Winery to hear stories of the exploits of the earliest Europeans in our district, explorers Hume and Hovell and Major Mitchell, as told by two avid historians. Be first to have a map of the Explorers Way, then enjoy lunch in this delightful setting beside the water.
Hear the inside stories and spend some time on the historic Major’s Line with the Nagambie Historical Society, as they, in collaboration with the Strathbogie Shire, launch the Explorers Way tourist drive which encircles the Shire.
Enjoy an early light lunch in the beautifully situated Wetlands View Restaurant at Tahbilk, with juice, tea and coffee provided. Other drinks at bar prices.
Two experts will then share the stories of what went on behind the expedition scenes. Surveyor, Greg Eccleston, was instrumental in the development of the 1700km Major Mitchell Trail, now revived through the Shire with this drive. See unique drone footage of the Major’s Line and the Crossing Place on the Goulburn River. Greg’s book on the 1836 expedition will be available.
The return drive trip, in the steps of Hume and Hovell in 1824, will be vividly brought to life by historian Ken McInnes. The historic cellar door and the invitation-only museum will be open after the event.
