Devonshire Tea on a Vintage Tram

A Devonshire Tea served on board an award winning restored vintage tram, Cuthberts 939, as it cruises gently through Ballarat's beautiful Botanical Gardens on the edge of Lake Wendouree. The event ends with a tour of the Ballarat Tramway Museum and its workshops.

Cuthberts 939 is a fully restored Melbourne W class tram from the 1940s. In the 1990s it became Melbourne’s third Colonial Restaurant Tram. The tram was acquired by the Ballarat Tramway Museum in 2011, and was completely restored in the Museums’s workshops. In 2017 the National Trust awarded the Museum for the best heritage restoration for the work on this iconic tram car. The Museum operates the tram for charter groups only, so this is a special opportunity for the general public to take a ride on this luxurious vehicle. For the Australian Heritage Festival, the Museum is offering a traditional Devonshire Tea, with a range of quality loose leaf teas and full espresso coffee service – in fact this tram is the only espresso tram in the world! The tram crew were involved in the rebuilding and restoration of the tram and have many stories to share. A tour of the Museum and workshops is included, with trams dating back to 1887. Bring your camera. Ticket price is for two people.
