Blandfordia 5 Heritage Walk

Hear the intriguing history of this special part of Griffith and its background of Garden City planning. The history evoked by its features includes traces of the earliest inhabitants of this land, references to the 18th century explorers, local 19th century settlers and 20th century visionaries.

Brendan Preiss who knows the hidden stories will lead this walk through meandering streets built some 80 years ago where the houses display distinct architectural styles and the early tree plantings are still significant. Bass Gardens Park is a focal point of interest. Observe how changes are occurring in this listed heritage place.

Walter Burley Griffin saw this area with Manuka as the Ideal City of the capital yet to be built. In doing so however he followed another person who had already set out the merits of this location. The vision and actions of yet others were needed to bring about what now remains. Learn who they all were.
