Benalla Migrant Camp Exhibition Open Day
This unique and unusual little exhibition offers the visitor an authentic impression of daily life at Benalla Migrant Camp . This holding camp for Bonegilla housed approximately 60,000 European migrants from 1949-1967. View photos and documents donated from private collections of former residents.
About 200 hundred original photos have been expertly digitised and reproduced on archival paper, and are displayed in an original camp accommodation hut, Hut 11. Allow about one hour to browse the photos, read about some of the stories, and possibly meet former resident ‘camp kids’ who will be in attendance as volunteers during this open day.
The Benalla Migrant Camp Exhibition has not opened for the past 2 years during Covid restrictions. This is the first opening of the exhibition since 2020 and the exhibition has been re-arranged and added to since.
