Balbuk’s Country: an exhibition

WA Inspired Art Quilt group has created a new range of superb quilts to recognise Noongar Whadjuk activist Fanny Balbuk Yooreel.

The works represent aspects of Perth that we know and that Fanny in all-likelihood experienced. The contemporary quilts include references to historic maps, records and locations. Individual quilts depict riverscapes around Heirisson Island, flora and fauna, including bush tucker, an 1835 map of the Swan River and the muddy route across Matagarup used for eons by Noongar people.

Explore separate listings for other Fanny Balbuk Yooreel events – a guided walk, a presentation and symposium.

These events are guided by Noongar women and their extended families in partnership with the National Trust of Western Australia, City of Perth, ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions and Department of Aboriginal Affairs. Supported by Lotterywest.

Quilt: Elizabeth Humphreys.
