Australian Railway Monument and Rail Journeys Museum
The Australian Railway Monument and Rail Journeys Museum tell the story of Werris Creek's Railway past in breath-taking, interactive displays which take you straight back to the hey-days of the Railways.
Werris Creek, the first and last Railway town in Australia, is celebrating its railway heritage in this engaging attraction. The Railway Monument remembers the men and women who lost their lives in the course of their railway duties while the Rail Journeys Museum tells the story of how the railways shaped not only Werris Creek, but also the nation. The interpretive display of memorabilia will have you set right back to the days when Werris Creek earned the name of the “town that never slept”. The volunteers who run the museum are all passionate about the railway and keen to share a personal story or two. And who doesn’t like watching a model train winding its way through the landscape, over bridges, past railway stations and disappear in tunnels? Take your time and submerge yourself in times gone past when the voices of the railways used to prevail in Werris Creek!
