Toowoomba Open House, 6 October 2013

Come take a peek...
On October 6 2013 the inaugural Toowoomba Open House celebrates our local historic attractions, innovative architectural design and clever adaptive reuse of heritage treasures with buildings such as the Empire Theatre, City Hall, UQ Rural Clinical School, St Luke’s Church and the Masonic Centre open free to the public.

Toowoomba Open House is a free-of-charge event that invites visitors to opens the doors of public and private buildings and places of architectural, historical and/or environmental significance. The event has run successfully in Brisbane for three years, Maryborough for one year and for many years in various international cities including London, New York, Dublin and Melbourne to name a few.

Residents, visitors, families, design buffs, architecture fans, heritage enthusiasts - absolutely anyone who is curious about Toowoomba’s unique places is invited to explore great contemporary, historic and sustainable buildings and spaces. With so many buildings open visitors will be spoilt for choice.

Plan your visit ahead with the toowoombaopenhouse Facebook page. Or drop into the TOH information hubs at the Visitor Information Centre in James Street or the Toowoomba Regional Council Customer Service Centre in Little Street on the day. TOH will be on hand on the day to answer your questions, provide you with a free guide and map and point you in the right direction.

Volunteer:

Become a part of this great community event, and support the Toowoomba Open House today by signing up as a volunteer! Volunteers will have the chance to actively participate in the running of the Toowoomba Open House. It is only with the help of volunteers that the event will be able to run – the more the better.

Volunteers will be required to attend a one hour information session, and help out for around three hours on the day. Duties on the day will include counting, welcoming, and advising visitors, directing crowds, managing bookings and tours, and in some cases, helping out with the running of tours. In exchange for a few hours of work, volunteers will have the rest of the day to visit buildings (with priority entry, of course!) and invitations to a VIP event on the evening of the 6th.

Sponsorship:

This free-of-charge event has been made possible with the support of the Toowoomba Regional Council Tourism and Events Branch, the Queensland Heritage Council, the National Trust of Queensland and the Australian Institute of Architects. But Toowoomba Open House is still looking for local sponsors keen to support the development of an engaging and dynamic public event which celebrates good design and fosters an appreciation for the built environment.
